Salon Kit for Solitary Walker

N.J. Mastro has created a salon kit for book clubs that want to go beyond the readers guide in the novel.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, salons were the precursor to the modern day book club. In a salon, women had the rare opportunity to engage in intellectual or scholarly debate.

During Mary Wollstonecraft's time, for example, the Blue Stockings Society was popular in England. In France, salons were the sphere of women, giving them unusual power to set the agenda and guide the conversation.
